Local Legal Advice Services

These free legal advice clinics assist people who cannot afford to pay for solicitors’ fees or are unable to access legal aid.  Solicitors, barristers and law students volunteer to provide, free, quality assured, legal advice. They can assist with issues such as general legal matters, employment rights, consumer matters, family, debt and insolvency, housing, benefits and civil litigation (check individual websites).

Legal Advice Centre –  Family Law Clinic

The clinic provides confidential advice and assistance on most family law matters including domestic violence.  The clinic is free and for people who are vulnerable and of limited means. Help on obtaining protective injunctions and practical support on related matters.

Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre 

Open term time only October to May

The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre has two central aims: educating students and engaging and supporting the community through the provision of pro bono legal advice. The Centre provides independent preliminary free legal advice to the general public.

Through the Immigration Clinic the Centre offers free advice on a range of matters including visa applications, indefinite leave to remain, and deportation.

Additionally, we provide advice on legal issues including:

Intellectual Property; Wills and Probate; Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Exclusions; Lasting Power of Attorney, Deputyship, Community Care Act, and Mental Health Act matters; Family Law; Image Based Sexual Abuse; Landlord and tenant disputes; Freehold and leasehold disputes; Employment issues; Consumer issues;  Private contracts; Criminal Law; Discrimination; Fitness to Practice Investigations (Nurses and Dental Professionals); Family and Immigration for members of the LGBTQ+ Community; Migrant Rights; Company law; and, Actions Against the Police.

The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre also run a Domestic Abuse Form Filling clinic that assists victims of domestic abuse in taking the first steps of obtaining non-molestation and occupation orders via an award-winning system called CourtNav. Service is free to members of the public who meet certain eligibility criteria, this includes an income threshold.

Toynbee Hall’s Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC)

FLAC offers Housing, Employment and Consumer advice through our partnerships with City law firms. Our advice clinics are delivered by volunteer trainee solicitors, whose work is supervised by Toynbee Hall staff with subject-specific expertise.
